Facts about the flag of France
Date adopted: 15 February 1794
Designer: Lafayette
Symbolism: The blue and red colors are associated with the city of Paris, while white is the color of the monarchy. Together, they represent the values of the French Revolution: liberty, equality, and fraternity.
- Pantone colours: Reflex Blue, White, Red 032
- Aspect ratio: 2 : 3
- Hanging protocol: The French flag is typically hung vertically with the blue stripe on the hoist side (left), followed by white in the middle, and red on the fly side (right).
- Design pitfall: A common mistake is reversing the order of the colors, especially confusing the blue and red stripes when hung vertically.
