Facts about the flag of Colombia
Date adopted: 26 November 1861
Symbolism: The flag of Colombia features three horizontal bands of yellow, blue, and red. The yellow band is twice the height of the blue and red bands. Yellow symbolizes the wealth of the country, blue represents the ocean that separates Colombia from Spain, and red stands for the blood shed in the fight for independence.
- Pantone colours: Yellow, Blue, Red
- Aspect ratio: 2 : 3
- Hanging protocol: The flag is typically hung horizontally with the yellow stripe on top, blue in the middle, and red at the bottom. When displayed vertically, the yellow stripe should be on the left.
- Design pitfall: A common mistake is to display the flag with equal stripes instead of the top yellow stripe being twice the height of the blue and red stripes.
