Facts about the flag of Venezuela
Date adopted: 12 March 2006
Designer: Francisco de Miranda
Symbolism: The yellow represents the wealth of the land, the blue represents the sea separating Venezuela from Spain, and the red symbolizes the blood shed by the heroes of independence. The stars represent the original provinces of Venezuela.
- Pantone colours: Yellow, Blue, Red
- Aspect ratio: 2 : 3
- Hanging protocol: The flag is typically hung horizontally with the yellow stripe on top, followed by blue in the middle, and red at the bottom, with the stars arranged in an arc in the center of the blue stripe.
- Design pitfall: A common mistake is to display the flag with the stars in the wrong order or orientation, or to confuse it with the flags of Colombia or Ecuador, which have similar horizontal tricolor designs but different star arrangements and coat of arms.
