Facts about the flag of CAR

Date adopted: 1 December 1958

Designer: Barthélemy Boganda

Symbolism: The flag combines the colors of France (blue, white, and red) with the Pan-African colors (green, yellow, and red) to symbolize the unity between Africa and France. The yellow star represents independence.

  • Pantone colours: Blue, White, Yellow, Green, Red
  • Aspect ratio: 3 : 5
  • Hanging protocol: The flag of the Central African Republic is typically hung horizontally with four horizontal stripes of blue, white, green, and yellow from top to bottom, and a vertical red stripe in the center. The yellow five-pointed star is in the upper hoist-side corner on the blue stripe.
  • Design pitfall: A common mistake is to misplace the vertical red stripe or to invert the order of the horizontal stripes, which alters the flag's intended symbolism.
