Facts about the flag of Vanuatu
Date adopted: 18 February 1980
Designer: Kalontas Malon
Symbolism: The red represents the blood of wild boars and men, the green symbolizes the richness of the islands, the black is for the ni-Vanuatu people, and the yellow Y-shape represents the light of the Gospel spreading through the islands. The emblem of a boar's tusk and two crossed namele leaves symbolizes peace and prosperity.
- Pantone colours: Green, Red, Black, Yellow
- Aspect ratio: 19 : 36
- Hanging protocol: The flag of Vanuatu is typically hung with the black, red, and green horizontal stripes oriented horizontally, with the yellow Y-shape starting from the hoist side and the black boar's tusk emblem inside the yellow triangle on the hoist side.
- Design pitfall: A common mistake is to reverse the flag horizontally, which places the emblem and yellow Y-shape on the wrong side.
