Facts about the flag of Pakistan

Date adopted: 11 August 1947

Designer: Amiruddin Kidwai

Symbolism: The green field represents the Muslim majority, while the white stripe represents religious minorities. The crescent symbolizes progress, and the star represents light and knowledge.

  • Pantone colours: Green, White
  • Aspect ratio: 2 : 3
  • Hanging protocol: The flag of Pakistan is typically hung with the white vertical stripe on the hoist side (left) and the green field with the crescent and star on the fly side (right). The crescent and star should always face upwards and to the left when displayed vertically.
  • Design pitfall: A common mistake is reversing the flag so that the white stripe is on the right side or displaying the crescent and star upside down.
