Facts about the flag of Marshall Islands
Date adopted: 1 May 1979
Designer: Emlain Kabua
Symbolism: The flag features a blue field with two diagonal stripes of orange and white, representing the equator and the archipelago's position above it. The white stripe symbolizes peace and brightness, while the orange stripe represents courage and wealth. The star has 24 points, symbolizing the electoral districts, and the four longer points represent the principal cultural centers of Majuro, Jaluit, Wotje, and Ebeye. The cross shape of the star signifies Christianity.
- Pantone colours: Blue, White, Orange
- Aspect ratio: 10 : 19
- Hanging protocol: The flag is typically hung with the blue field at the top left corner (hoist side), with the two diagonal stripes running from the lower hoist side to the upper fly side, and the white star in the upper hoist corner.
- Design pitfall: A common mistake is reversing the diagonal stripes or misplacing the star, which should be in the upper hoist corner above the stripes.
