Facts about the flag of Kosovo
Date adopted: 17 February 2008
Designer: Muhamer Ibrahimi
Symbolism: The six white stars in an arc above the golden map of Kosovo represent the six major ethnic groups of Kosovo: Albanians, Serbs, Turks, Gorani, Romani, and Bosniaks. The blue background and design are reminiscent of European identity.
- Pantone colours: Pantone 280 C (blue), Pantone 116 C (yellow), White
- Aspect ratio: 5 : 3
- Hanging protocol: The flag of Kosovo is typically hung with the blue field as the background, the map of Kosovo in gold centered, and six white stars in an arc above the map. When displayed vertically, the stars should be oriented so they appear upright, and the map should be rotated accordingly to maintain correct orientation.
- Design pitfall: A common mistake is confusing the six stars, which represent the major ethnic groups, with the EU flag stars, or misorienting the map of Kosovo when the flag is hung vertically.
