Facts about the flag of Jordan
Date adopted: 16 April 1928
Symbolism: The flag of Jordan consists of horizontal black, white, and green stripes connected by a red chevron. The black, white, and green are Pan-Arab colors, representing the Abbasid, Umayyad, and Fatimid Caliphates, respectively. The red chevron represents the Hashemite dynasty and Arab Revolt. The seven-pointed star symbolizes the seven verses of Al-Fatiha, the first surah of the Quran, and unity.
- Pantone colours: Black, White, Green, Red
- Aspect ratio: 1:2
- Hanging protocol: The flag of Jordan is typically hung with the black stripe on top, followed by white and green stripes, with the red chevron on the hoist side containing the white seven-pointed star centered within it.
- Design pitfall: A common mistake is confusing the Jordanian flag with the flag of Palestine, which has a similar color scheme but lacks the white seven-pointed star in the red chevron.
