Facts about the flag of Italy
Date adopted: 1 January 1948
Symbolism: The green represents the country's plains and the hills; the white, the snow-capped Alps; and the red, the blood spilled in the Italian Wars of Independence.
- Pantone colours: Green, White, Red
- Aspect ratio: 2 : 3
- Hanging protocol: The Italian flag is typically hung vertically with the green stripe on the hoist side (left), followed by white in the middle, and red on the right.
- Design pitfall: A common mistake is confusing the Italian flag with the Mexican flag, which has similar colors but includes a coat of arms in the center white stripe.
