Facts about the flag of Guam
Date adopted: 4 July 1948
Symbolism: The flag of Guam features a dark blue field with a red border and the coat of arms of Guam in the center. The coat of arms includes a proa (a type of canoe) sailing in Agana Bay near Hagåtña, with a coconut tree on the shore. The shape of the emblem is that of a Chamorro sling stone, used as a weapon and a symbol of strength.
- Pantone colours: Blue, Red, White, Green
- Aspect ratio: 22 : 41
- Hanging protocol: The flag of Guam is typically hung with the blue field on the top left, and the seal centered on a red-bordered blue field. When displayed vertically, the seal should be rotated so it remains upright and readable.
- Design pitfall: A common mistake is to display the flag without the red border around the blue field or to misorient the seal, causing it to appear upside down or sideways.
