Facts about the flag of Dominica
Date adopted: 3 November 1978
Designer: Alwin Bully
Symbolism: The green field represents the lush vegetation of the island. The cross represents the Trinity and Christianity, with its three colors symbolizing the native people (black), the fertile soil (yellow), and the pure water (white). The Sisserou Parrot, a national symbol, is centered on a red circle, representing social justice.
- Pantone colours: Green, Yellow, White, Black, Red
- Aspect ratio: 1:2
- Hanging protocol: The flag of Dominica is typically hung with the green field vertical, the cross centered, and the parrot emblem upright and facing the hoist side.
- Design pitfall: A common mistake is confusing the colors of the cross stripes or misorienting the Sisserou parrot, which should face the hoist side.
